when do you use B^2 - 4AC is less than 0, greater than 0, or equal to 0, and what do A, B, and C stand for?

when B^2-4AC is less than 0...its an ellipse
when B^2-4AC is equal to 0....it is a parabola
when B^2-4AC is greater than 0...it is a hyperbola
