Hey, does anyone remember how to to the comp of a vector and the proj of a vector onto another? And what exactly does "comp" tell you?

(u dot v, over the quantity of magnitude of u times magnitude of v)
***proj v onto u: (u*v)/(|v|^2)*v
(u dot v, over magnitude of v squared, times v)
***=not sure if its right
and i have no clue what they mean, sorry.
