12.3#37

This was the problem with the ball that was dropped and rose halfway after each bounce. I figured out the answer by doing the sum by hand, but couldn't figure out a formula. Any hints?

i used the formula for the sums but i wasn't sure what to use for a1. when i used 8, i got 15.875 and when i used 4 (because i figured that it was after the first bounce) i got 7.93; neither of which were what the book said.
8((1-.5^7)/(1-.5))
why didn't this work?
