problems concerning hills

i dont understand these, there is one on the hw. how do i set it up

for my understanding, for this type of problems, they will give you two sides and an angle (the angle is not between the two sides). you can use this angle and its relationship with other angles to find the measurement of the angle you needed (the angle between the two sides), and now you have two sides and the angle between them, you can use law of cosines to find the opposite side to the angle. (this explaination works for the problem on the homework, i think.)

what i did for the one on the quiz was that I made a straight line, and a line with the given slope. Then the straight line makes a 90 degree angle, u can find the bottom angle of the triangle by subtracting the given angle from 180, find the third angle by subtracticing the two from 180, then u can figure out the rest of the sides using the law of cosines or the law of sines. hope that made sense

So really, the only thing different from what other people said is that the angle of elevation is from the slope of the hill the the horizontal and the depression is from the horizontal down to the hill. Otherwise, ou are probably good.
