instantaneous rate of change (value of h)

The intstantaneous rate of change is taken when ha is infinitely small. Two questions about this:

1. How do you write this on paper?

2. Is there any way to make your calculator display calculate the average rate of change?

To write it on paper, just make h any small number such as .0001, it doesn't need to be infinitely small. As for your second question, im not sure how but i would say just use the distance as i find that to be the easiest way.
